Sally smith
aboutBeginnings
Sally is trained in Tap, Modern, Ballet and Jazz dance, with a GCSE and A-Level in Dance also. From this she gained a degree in BA (hons) Dance; Performance and Teaching from the University of Central Lancashire in 2009. On graduation, she set up as a freelance dance teacher and sports coach, delivering sessions in primary schools around Shropshire and Birmingham. In 2011 Sally was appointed as Assistant Choreographer for a Rosie Kay Dance Company project, resulting in a final large scale site-specific performance on the Severn Valley Railway – ‘The Great Train Dance’; part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
Teacher Training
In 2012, Sally completed her PGCE in Secondary Education at The University of Bedfordshire, becoming a teacher of Physical Education and Dance – whilst at the same time took her qualification in Zumba and her Exercise to Music qualification. She set up as Sally Smith Dance and Fitness soon after, giving focus on fitness as well as in dance and teaching.
Opportunity
She moved South Africa in 2013 to broaden her experience in teaching. During her time abroad, she worked in private schools delivering dance and sport, and delivered fitness classes in gyms. She was able to implement a school-wide dance programme to enable other teachers to continue to deliver dance in the future.
Return to UK
Following her return to the UK in 2014, she became a full time secondary school teacher of Dance and PE in Birmingham, and later in Shropshire, alongside continuing to deliver fitness classes. In 2016 she qualified as a gym instructor and personal trainer through AP Fitness Academy under Active IQ qualifications. Sally was also appointed as a Tutor for AP Fitness Academy with ActiveIQ shortly after, tutoring and assessing individuals who want to become instructors and personal trainers.

New Challenges
In 2017, she took on the role of Manager of The Gym Club in Bridgnorth, where Sally also delivered classes and personal training. Alongside this, she taught GCSE Dance at Bridgnorth Endowed School until July 2017. She became a Boogie Bounce instructor during her time managing too – a busy year, but so much so, in December 2017, she left her role to completely focus on Sally Smith Dance and Fitness, after the business saw such successful growth!
Today
Sally is now based in Shrewsbury, and is proud to now offer other elements on a local and national scale such as wedding dance choreography, dance for schools, qualifications, parties and much more. The future is exciting – come and be part of the Sally Smith Dance and Fitness following!
